Scramble for Safe Families sets golf tournament

A golf tournament aimed at raising money for a local child abuse and domestic violence program is looking for players and sponsors for its second annual event.

The 2008 Scramble for Safe Families Charity Golf Tournament will begin at 1:30 p.m., Aug. 9 on the Auburn Golf Course, 29630 Green River Road SE. Events include a four-person scramble, hole-in-one contest, putting contest, banquet, auction, raffles and awards.

The entry fee for players is $360 or a four-person team and $90 or an individual. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Jennifer Beach Foundation.

The foundation is a Covington based, non-profit organization that provides education, advocacy, and assistance to the community addressing issues of child abuse and domestic violence.

Child abuse and neglect is a national problem that has increased to epidemic proportions in the United States. More than 2.5 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States annually. Hundreds of deaths result from child abuse each year. Last year in Washington, more than 36,000 cases of child abuse were reported to the state.
