Snowstorm strikes Auburn

An early February snowstorm shut down Auburn schools, caused power outages, stopped garbage service and closed several city streets.

All Auburn School District offices and schools were closed Monday and afternoon and evening school events were cancelled after 5 inches or more of snow hit Auburn on Sunday night and Monday morning.

Most main roads in the area were wet and clear by late Monday morning.

The National Weather Service predicts a chance of rain and snow showers before 10 p.m. on Monday, then a chance of snow showers, with a low around 31 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one-half inch possible.

On Tuesday, a slight chance of snow showers is predicted before 10 a.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. It’s expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
