State parks needs volunteers for Seattle Boat Show

The Seattle Boat Show is just around the corner and the Washington State Parks Boating Safety Program is looking for volunteers to help staff in the boating education booth.

The boat show runs from Jan. 21-30 at the Qwest Field Event Center, 800 Occidental Ave. S., Seattle (across the street from Safeco Field). Show hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The boat show will feature a variety of recreational watercraft on display, as well as seminars and the latest boating accessories.

Volunteers will be accompanied by staff from the program or boating-affiliated organizations to help provide information to the public. Volunteers are needed for the following shifts. Volunteers who can stay and help with the booth for an entire day are especially needed.

• Monday through Friday: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 3:30 to 8 p.m.

• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.

• Sunday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 1 to 6 p.m.

Volunteers will receive one pass per shift and reimbursement for parking (receipts and travel vouchers must be submitted after the show). Overnight lodging, mileage and salary will not be paid for by the State Parks Boating Programs.

The State Parks booth will be in the Boater Education Center, which will include all boating safety education organizations together in one location to provide one-stop shopping for visitors to learn about the education law and requirements and to get boating questions answered. The Boating Safety Program will be promoting the boater education card. The boater education card is required for those 35 years and younger in 2011. You can visit the education center to find out more about the boater card requirement, speak to experts, volunteers, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Power Squadron and Parks volunteers. Come volunteer with the Washington State Parks Boating Safety representatives and if you don’t already have your boater card, make the pledge to get your boater safety education card in 2011.
