Three young adults are safe after a fire caused significant damage to the kitchen area of their home, located at 529 17th Ct. SE. in Auburn.

The fire was reported at 10:36 a.m. today by a passerby who saw smoke coming from the windows of an approximately 2,500-square-foot, two-story home.

When Valley Regional Fire Authority Firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the structure. Two men had evacuated the home and a third female was found by firefighters, asleep in an upstairs bedroom.

Fire crews extinguished the fire quickly and used high pressure fans to remove smoke from the home.

The three residents declined medical attention.
