Three file for mayoral race

There is no shortage of candidates lining up to be Auburn's next mayor when Pete Lewis finishes his third and final term. Or candidates vying to take their places on the Auburn City Council.

There is no shortage of candidates lining up to be Auburn’s next mayor when Pete Lewis finishes his third and final term.

Or candidates vying to take their places on the Auburn City Council.

All their names will be known by the end of filing week, May 13-17.

As of now, Mayor Pro Tem Nancy Backus, her fellow councilmember John Partridge, and Iraq war veteran Scot Pondelick compose the field of mayoral hopefuls.

Because more than two candidates are vying for the mayor’s position, there will be an Aug. 6 primary to pare the field to two.

Filing for City Council are Claude DaCorsi, who is seeking Position 2, Partridge’s present seat, and Yolanda Trout, Position 4, who will run for the seat now held by Backus. Incumbent Rich Wagner is seeking reelection to Position 6.
