The City of Auburn is seeking volunteers for Saturday’s Clean Sweep project, a community-wide volunteer effort that will focus on major cleanup and beautification efforts downtown Auburn and other areas around the City.

Volunteer groups will work on painting, cleaning, weeding, landscaping and general maintenance projects in downtown Auburn and other locations.

Register online, or fill out, print the registration and bring it to the Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation office, 910 Ninth St. SE in the Les Gove Community Campus.

Volunteers can either choose to participate in a specific project or can ask to be assigned to the project that is in need of the most volunteer support. Service clubs, social service agencies, faith-based groups, scouting troops, businesses, and individuals are being asked to come together and work side-by-side to help with the planting project.

Volunteers will be asked to bring tools based on their volunteer assignment (determined once registered), gardening or work gloves, and a broom for the ceremonial sweep along the Main Street sidewalks. Participants are encouraged to wear T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, or other clothing that identifies their group. The City will provide breakfast, instruction sheets for each project site, and garbage bags and Dumpsters for debris.

The Clean Sweep project will kick off at City Hall at 7:30 a.m. with group registration and a pancake breakfast prepared by Kiwanis Club of Auburn. Volunteers will then participate in a Ceremonial Clean Sweep down the Main Street sidewalks at 8:30 a.m., followed by the collective volunteer projects at various sites around Auburn beginning around 9 a.m.
