The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 242 calls for service between Feb. 29 and March 6, among them the following:
Feb. 29
Fire alarm: 1:38 p.m., (Auburn). A sprinkler head damaged by a forklift leaked water into a frozen food warehouse, tripping a water flow alarm that alerted firefighters. Workers quickly shut down the system, and firefighters helped drain it, thereby limiting water damage.
March 1
Smoke in a home: 3:43 p.m., (South Auburn). A child in a double duplex switched on an oven where utensils had been stored, causing those utensils to smolder and bringing VRFA firefighters on the trot. After they had secured electricity to the stove and extinguished the smoldering objects, firefighters used fans to clear the smoke and let the occupants back in when all was safe.
March 2
Aid call: 7 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). After firefighters examined a little girl who had fallen from a stool and determined she could stay at home, they left her under her parents’ watchful eyes.
March 3
Accident: 6:55 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters helped a woman who’d sustained a fractured arm in a car accident, and a private ambulance transported her to Valley Medical Center.
March 4
Accident: 7:15 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters called to a two-car, T-bone accident treated one man for neck and back pain and scooted him off to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).
March 5
Accident: 11:46 a.m., (Algona). Firefighters, King County Medics and the Washington State Patrol responded to a multi-car accident on northbound State Route 167, where fighters extricated one young woman from her vehicle and transported her to MAMC for treatment of minor injuries. A private ambulance likewise transported a young man to MAMC for treatment of his minor injuries.
March 6
Aid call: 3 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics treated a young boy who had fallen from his skateboard and hit his head, and a private ambulance transported him to Tacoma General Hospital.
