Between Oct. 14 and Oct. 20, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 245 calls for service, among them the following:

Oct. 14

Aid call: 7:22 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated and treated a middle-aged woman who’d been bitten by a dog, and a friend transported her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

Oct. 15

Illegal burn: 1:44 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to an illegal burn complaint in the 29900 block of 112th Avenue Southeast found homeowners burning a large pile of leaves that contained wasps. Once firefighters extinguished the conflagration, they informed the homeowners of the existence of the Puget Sound Pollution ordinance.

Oct. 16

Vehicle fire: 2:20 a.m.,(Lakeland Hills). Firefighters extinguished an off-road vehicle fire before it could spread to nearby vegetation. Nobody was hurt.

Oct. 18

Aid call: 5:26 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters helped to his feet an elderly man who had fallen at his home and needed help getting up. No further medical attention was needed. When firefighters learned that the man was a retired firefighter, they spent a few extra minutes listening to stories of years past.

Oct. 19

Apartment fire: 6:23 p.m. Shortly after leaving their fire station to respond to an automatic fire alarm, firefighters learned the alarm had been upgraded to a commercial fire in an apartment building. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a pickup truck ablaze in the ground-floor garage. With sprinklers preventing the fire from spreading to the upper residential floors, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Subsequent investigation determined the cause was accidental.

Oct. 20

Aid call: 8 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters treated a woman who had fallen and injured her head, and her husband transported her to MAMC.
