Oct. 17

Aid call: 2:35 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters helped an Auburn senior citizen who was complaining of a temporary loss of movement in his lower body. After resting, the man regained his strength and was able to move his lower extremities. Firefighters encouraged the man to seek additional medical evaluation, and he agreed to do so, if needed.

Oct. 18

Accident: 4:23 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters who rushed to a two-car accident involving five persons treated two young women for minor injuries that did not require transportation to a hospital.

Oct. 19

Truck fire: 7:19 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters who had responded to a pickup on fire on Auburn Way South near Highway 18 found a fully-involved pickup. Although firefighters quickly put out the fire, the truck was a total loss.

Oct. 20

Aid call: 1 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters evaluated a young man who was complaining of nausea and general weakness, left him at home with his mother, and advised him to follow up with the family doctor if symptoms worsened.

Oct. 21

Aid call: 8:03 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a teenage boy who was injured during a football game. Hit during a tackle, the kid was feeling pain down his neck and arms. Firefighters and training staff on the scene removed his helmet and shoulder pads safely and secured him to a backboard. A VRFA aid unit transported the boy to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

Oct. 22

Oven fire: 7:44 a.m., (Algona). Having responded to a report of an oven fire, firefighters discovered that the homeowner had used the self-cleaning feature of the oven but forgot to remove the cookware she had stored in the oven, causing an excessive amount of smoke. Firefighters disconnected power to the oven and ventilated the home.

Oct. 23

Illegal burn: 3:43 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters proceeded to a report of illegal burning near an apartment complex, contacted the responsible party and provided education and handout information about outdoor burning.
