The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 170 calls for service between March 29 and April 4, among them the following:

March 29

Illegal burning: 2:26 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters schooled an errant Pacific man on the subject of outdoor burning regulations. The property owner snuffed the fire and firefighters pointed him in the direction of the VRFA web site, www.VRFA.org, rife with helpful information.

March 30

Shooting: 3:01 a.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics to the parking lot of Top Foods in north Auburn to reports of a shooting. VRFA personnel arrived and found an unconscious, unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds. The man could not be revived and died at the scene.

March 31

CPR: 9:47 a.m., (Lea Hill). The VRFA, Medic One and Kent Fire Department responded to an unconscious, unresponsive older man. Personnel ceased their efforts at the scene, and firefighters helped the family with end-of-life procedures.

April 1

Shooting: 3 p.m., (Lea Hill). VRFA and King County Medic One units responded to reports of a shooting. Auburn Police Department units arrived first and began CPR on the man, and firefighters and paramedics kept it going. Unfortunately, the man died at the scene.

April 2

Aid call: 2:55 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responded to reports of a man falling over a guardrail. On arrival, the man was having difficulty standing, so firefighters treated his wounds and sent him by private ambulance to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

April 3

Aid call: 9:20 a.m., (Algona). The VRFA treated an elderly man who had lost consciousness; then, County Medic One transported the man to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

April 4

Motorcycle accident: 10:30 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to Pacific Raceways on a mutual aid call with Mountain View Fire and Rescue to help a motorcyclist who had crashed on the road course. King County Medics and firefighters arrived to find the race track rescue crew performing CPR on the rider. VRFA personnel helped with patient care and CPR. Resuscitation efforts were successful and Airlift Northwest transported the patient to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. The 62-year-old Olympia man later died.
