Winter storm creates 970 incidents reported in King County

In just 24 hours, from 8 a.m. Monday at 8 a.m. Tuesday, 970 incidents were reported to the King County Washington State Patrol communications center. Collisions and blocking disabled vehicles made up a huge percentage of the reports.

Of those 970 reports, State Troopers and DOT personnel were dispatched to several types of scenes. Multiple-car collisions, jack-knifed semi trucks and impassible roadways slowed response time and brought traffic in some areas to a stop.

The following numbers are low estimates from the incident logs created for that 24 hour period. Several scenes and reports included more than one collision or disabled in the same location and were grouped together with one entry due to the high quantity of incidents being reported.

• 348 collisions were reported with 79 reportable collisions (16 involved injuries); 137 non-reportable collisions; 132 collisions were unable to locate or back underway.

• 307 disabled vehicles were reported with 173 reported as blocking the roadway

The remainder of the reports were a combination of debris, roadway condition and other law enforcement issues.
