JEANNIE SMITH KANGAS

Jeannie Smith Kangas, a long-time Kent resident, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2009. She was born on September 18, 1923, to Tecla and Lewis Smith in Enumclaw, Washington. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raino Kangas, and brothers Vernon and Lester Smith. She is survived by daughters Linda Swanson of Renton, and Carol (Chris) Kaufman of Seattle; grandchildren Erik and Keri Swanson and Annika, Liisa, and Kelly Kaufman; sisters Lucille McConnell and Dorie Jennings; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She enjoyed her family, dancing, and she was a long-time member of the Auburn Eagles Aerie Auxiliary #2298 ladies drill team. She avidly watched every televised Mariners’ baseball game, and we are convinced she was waiting for the season to end before she passed away. A celebration of Jeannie’s life was held on October 25. The family asks that any memorial gifts be made to Providence Hospice of Seattle Foundation, 425 Pontius AVE N, #300, Seattle, WA 98109.
