Auburn Riverside boys basketball knocks off Auburn, 77-60

Things are coming together for the Auburn Riverside High boys basketball team.

As much was evident Friday night, when the Ravens throttled cross-town rival Auburn 77-60 in the final South Puget Sound League North Division regular-season game for both teams.

The final result meant little in the standings to the Ravens (11-9) or the Trojans (12-6), though it does give Auburn Riverside considerable momentum heading into the postseason.

“I thought it was one of the better games we played all season,” Auburn Riverside coach Tom Adams said. “The kids seemed to be playing for each other.”

It was that way all last week for the Ravens, who clinched the SPSL North’s No. 5 seed to the playoffs with a win a few days earlier over Kentlake.

Auburn Riverside will play Beamer (10-10) at 6 p.m. Friday at Thomas Jefferson for the ninth seed to the West Central District III tournament, which begins next week.

And if this past Friday’s win over Auburn is any indication, things are coming together for the Ravens. Auburn Riverside guard continue to light it up, torching the Trojans for 23 points.

Devin Cagampang (12 points) and Mitch Hagerty (11) also reached double figures for the Ravens.

Carlo Lavoie paced Auburn with 21 points followed by Iszia Johnson, who poured in 16.

Auburn, which finished the regular season with the North Division’s No. 4 seed, will play Rogers at 8 p.m. Friday at Jefferson for the No. 7 seed to the district playoffs.
