Auburn Riverside boys hoop falls 96-51 to No. 1 Federal Way

The Auburn Riverside boys were unable to withstand the onslaught of Federal Way, the top-ranked 4A boys basketball team in the state, on Thursday, falling 96-51 in the first round of the West Central District III tourney.

The Ravens (11-10) came into the game as the No. 10 seed out of the South Puget Sound League 4A tourney, after losing to Beamer 73-65 this past Friday. No. 1 seeded Federal Way (20-2), the No. 1 ranked 4A team in the state, meanwhile, came into the game hot-on-the-heels of a 69-63 double-overtime win against Decatur in the SPSL league championship game.

Federal Way built up a 40-24 lead in the first half and further buried Auburn Riverside with a 27-0 run in the third quarter. The Eagles held the Ravens to just nine points in the frame.

Federal was led by Michael Hale who had a game-high 19 points to go with 14 assists and four steals. Andre Barrington added 18 points with Cole Dickerson chipping in with 14 points.

The Ravens were led by Dustin Hegge with 15 points. Mitch Hagerty added 10 points and 8 rebounds on 3-of-13 shooting. Ryan Rogers was held to just five points.

As a team Federal Way shot 65.5 percent from the field and scored 39 points off of 25 Raven turnovers.

Auburn Riverside shot 30.9 percent.

The Ravens will take on Rogers (14-8) of Puyallup in the second round of the district tourney at 8 p.m. Saturday at Foss High School in a loser-out game.
