Climbing higher: Lions’ Provo earns WIAA/Wendy’s Athlete of the Week honors

Auburn Mountainview’s rec0rd-setting pole vaulter clears 15 feet

Auburn Mountainview’s rec0rd-setting pole vaulter Kasey Provo has earned WIAA/Wendy’s Athlete of the Week honors for March 10-16.

Provo, a senior, reset the school record by clearing 15 feet at the Cardinal Relays in Orting last Saturday. He had set the record of 14 feet, 9 inches to finish second at the 4A state finals last May.

Provo is ranked second in the state behind Tahoma’s Zachary Klobutcher (15-7), the defending state champion.

Each week throughout the school year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association recognizes varsity athletes who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week (based off nominations). All varsity student-athletes in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the award. Students may win the award once during any given academic year.

Nominations are open to athletic administrators, coaches, fans and members of the media, with a weekly deadline of noon Tuesday.
