Drag strip update: Penhall to oversee final finish

Penhall Company will be at Pacific Raceways next week to put the final finish on more than 300 feet of new concrete on the drag strip.
Penhall is rushing state-of-the-art equipment from back east out to the Kent track to ensure that a quality finish of the racing surface happens, said Tracie Brandenburg, Pacific Raceways general manager.
“We want this to be a great track for everyone,” she said.
Penhall has been the go-to expert in concrete finishing with NHRA and NASCAR national event tracks, according to Brandenburg.
“We are willing to reschedule activity at the track another week to provide the best surface for our weekly racers as well as the national event competitors,” she said.
By bringing Penhall on the job to grind and polish the new concrete, the drag strip is not expected to open until the Friday night, June 8 test and tune, said Ed Garfield, Pacific Raceways drag manager.
“We know another delay is frustrating to our local racers,” Garfield said. “However, our weekly racers will be the primary beneficiary of an improved racing surface. We’ve had great weather during the concrete pour and curing process; by having Penhall put the finishing touches on the concrete will make things that much better.”
The fourth race in the Auto Max USA Drag Race Series will be rescheduled. Race number three has already been rescheduled to Aug. 25t. Look for an updated event schedule for all missed drag races on www.pacificraceways.com soon.
Penhall is recognized around the country for advanced technologies in the construction industry. Their equipment and professional staff have received numerous awards. Penhall has been a longtime sponsor of NHRA professional race teams, most recently with Mike Edwards’ Pro Stock team.
NASCAR tracks in Charlotte; Bristol, Tenn; Las Vegas; Atlanta; and Dallas have benefited from Penhall’s experience. In addition to Penhall’s expertise, NHRA’s Wayne McMurtry will be onsite for consultation.
