The final three races of an eight-race card were cancelled Friday evening when jockeys refused to ride their mounts in the 6th race, citing what they deemed an unsafe area of the racetrack near the five-eighths pole.
“Our Track Superintendent corrected an issue with the track following the 5th race,” Emerald Downs Director of Marketing Adrian Buchan said. “We were confident the track was safe. The jockeys disagreed and would not accept their mounts for the 6th race. We had no other choice but to cancel the remainder of the card.”
All patrons were given a complimentary return admission ticket to Emerald Downs. Friday’s first five races were run without incident, and Emerald Downs plans to resume racing Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
