Longacres Mile Preview Day — featuring stakes events for older handicap horses of both sexes — will feature many of the track’s top runners on July 26.

The $50,000 Mt. Rainer Handicap features older horses at 1 1/8 miles in their final tune-up for the 74th running of the $300,000 Longacres Mile (Gr. III) on Aug. 16. And the $50,000 Boeing Handicap for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles is the final prep for the $100,000 Emerald Distaff.

Eleven horses are nominated to the Mt. Rainier, including Assessment and Wasserman from the Howard Belvoir barn. Both horses have already raced five times this season, with Assessment holding the edge over Wasserman in every race to date. Assessment has been the division’s most consistent performer with two wins and three seconds, including a neck victory over defending Longacres Mile champion Wasserman in the June 21 Budweiser Emerald Handicap.

Elusive Horizon and Gadget Queen top the list for the Boeing Handicap. Gadget Queen scored by three lengths in the June 7 Washington State Legislators Stakes, but Elusive Horizon turned the tables with a four-length victory in the July 4 King County Handicap.
