EMERALD DOWNS: Toutlelew waves goodbye under Ricky Frazier

Toutlelew moved leading rider Ricky Frazier a step closer to a new single-season riding record with a powerful three-length victory Thursday in the Stanislaw Ashbaugh Purse for older horses at Emerald Downs.

For Frazier, who has clinched his fourth riding title in six years, it was his 151st victory at the 88-day-old meeting. He needs seven wins in the final three days to break his own mark of 157 wins set in 2007.

A 6-year-old Washington-bred by Slewdledo, Toutlelew ran 5-½ furlongs in 1:02.54 on a fast track and paid $3.80, $2.60 and $2.10. Bonnie Jenne is the trainer for owner Jon Sather of Manson, Wash. Frazier, Jenne and Sather also combined with Ladyledue to win four stakes at the meeting.

Candyman Slew, Javier Matias riding, led past mid-stretch but was overhauled by Toutlelew and settled for second place. Candyman Slew paid $3.60 and $2.20. Devilish Fact finished third and Box Top was fourth and last.

Tijuana Tuesday and Mr. Makah were scratched.

Toutlelew has compiled a 7-4-4 record in 31 starts with earnings of $68,915.

In the trainers’ race, meanwhile, Tim McCanna leads Doris Harwood 59-58, as both saddled a winner Thursday.
