Former Auburn standout and University of Washington recruit Chris Young has signed a letter of intent to attend and play football at Arizona Western Junior College in Yuma this fall, according to the school sports information director Jim Howell.

Young had previously committed to play football for the Huskies, but reportedly did not qualify academically, according to sources.

As a senior running back and defensive back, Young helped guide the Trojans to an undefeated regular season, rushing for 1,424 yards and 26 touchdowns.

After the Trojans’ final regular-season game, Young was suspended for the postseason for an athletic code violation prior to the school’s homecoming celebration. As a result, he did not play for the team in the playoffs.

Young will play for the Matadors, who finished 9-2 last season, winning the Western States Football League title with a 30-17 win over Utah’s Snow College. Arizona Western fell to East Mississippi 27-24 in the Mississippi Bowl and finished ranked No. 7 in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll.

Arizona Western is a two-year college, and Young’s commitment to UW is now void. Once Young obtains an associate’s degree from Arizona Western, he will be free to sign with any four-year college for his remaining two years of eligibility.
