Gross Misconduct used his blazing speed to good advantage Friday, rolling to a 2¼-length victory in the $18,800 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.
Breaking from the No. 1 post-position under Leslie Mawing, Gross Misconduct ran 6½ furlongs in 1:16.71 and paid $7.60, $4.60 and $3.20. G.D. Khalsa is the trainer for owner Michael Pollowitz, who claimed the 4-year-old gelding for $22,500 last month.
Westley, ridden by Jake Barton, closed strongly for second place and paid $6.20 and $3.60. Perfect Night, with Jennifer Whitaker riding, rallied late for third and paid $2.60 to show.
Redsolocup, Illumination Road and Hoody completed the order of finish.
Gross Misconduct and Hoody dueled through fractions of :22.25 and :45.25, with Gross Misconduct shaking loose into the lane. The winner opened three lengths past mid-stretch and held sway to the wire.
A 4-year-old Florida-bred by Keyed Entry-Sea Witch, Gross Misconduct is 4-3-1 in 11 career starts with $47,109 in earnings, including $10,340 for Friday’s triumph.
Indian relay racing thrills fans
Battle of the Horse Racing Nations began Friday, featuring three two-mile heats over the one-mile oval. The three-day competition continues with three races both Saturday and Sunday.

Trainer Rigoberto Velasquez saddled his 200th Emerald Downs winner as Call Me Cinderella ($5.80) rallied to win race three under Joe Steiner. Velasquez became the 22nd trainer to reach the milestone at EmD. . .It took nine tries but Andiamo Deb ($37.40) – younger sister of stakes winners Mike Man’s Gold and No Flies On Doodle – broke her maiden in Friday’s opener for 3-year-old fillies. Steiner rode the gate-to-wire winner for trainer David Martinez and owner Swag Stables-Gallo Stables. … Steiner and Leslie Mawing rode two winners each on the seven-race card. … Trainer Dickie Martinez notched his first Emerald Downs win, Northern Force ($8) wearing down Lots of Prayers for the victory in race two. Martinez is one of several newcomers this season from Turf Paradise. … Jockey Osvaldo Gonzalez rode his first Thoroughbred winner at Emerald Downs, guiding Another Winter ($9.00) to victory in race five. Gonzalez previously had a quarter horse winner at the meet. … Owner Micahel Pollowitz and trainer G.D. Khalsa had eventful nights.
