After another autumn of leading the Trojans into the state football playoffs, Gordon Elliott was back in the ballpark this spring as Auburn’s junior varsity baseball coach – just as he had been for the past three seasons.
For the results he produced – not to mention his two-sport versatility – Elliott has been named the Reporter’s Auburn-area Prep Coach of the Year.

Garrett Rutledge was a wanted man.
A total of 15 older fillies and mares have been nominated for Sunday’s $50,000 Washington State Legislators Stakes at Emerald Downs.
The speedy Jerry Hollendorfer-trained filly Private Dreams is likely to be the betting favorite in the 6 ½-furlong event.
The 4-year-old Johannesburg filly beat many of these same horses in the May 18 Hastings Park Handicap at Emerald. She sprinted to the early lead and never looked back, powering home by 5 ¾ lengths while establishing a stakes record of 1:08 3/5 for 6 furlongs.
