Snip N Dale overpowered his opponents with a one-length victory Saturday in the $12,400 added Muckleshoot Trial Classic-John Deere Bonus Challenge for Quarter Horses at Emerald Downs.

The race was the first Quarter Horse event in track history and went as the final race on an 11-race program that also included the $5,100 Blue Mountain Championship for Thoroughbreds that have started at the Blue Mountain Circuit in 2010.

A 5-year-old Oregon-bred by Okey Dokey Dale, Snip N Dale ran 350 yards in 17.30 seconds and paid $3.40, $3 and $2.60 as the heavy favorite in the field of 12.

Regular rider Joe Crispin was aboard Snip N Dale for trainer Scott Raley and owner/breeder Gary Chumbley. It was the 19th win in 26 career starts for a gelding that has campaigned mainly in Oregon, where recent victories included stakes triumphs at Prineville and Grants Pass. The $5,589 winner’s share bumped his career earnings to $162,396.

Devon Dat Cash, ridden by Terrance Birdrattler, finished second and returned $5.20 and $4. Jody Dat Cash, a 48-to-1 long shot with Leonel Camacho Flores riding, finished third and paid $11.80.

There might have been an anxious moment when Snip N Dale failed to break alertly, but Crispin said the outcome was never in doubt.

“I expected to win, of course,” Crispin said. “He’s all business. When he grabbed a hold of the bit, I knew it was over. He could have won by much more, if I had let him. He does it pretty easy.”

Raley, clicking at 30 percent wins in 2010, also was confident Snip N Dale would prevail.

“When I saw his second jump after breaking from the gate, I knew he had it won,” Raley said. “He doesn’t lose much. This whole experience has been fantastic. I hope we get to come back to Emerald Downs.”
