Auburn Mountainview’s pursuit of a state 4A football berth ended with a thud Friday night.

Mount Vernon shut down the Lions, limiting them to a pair of first-half field goals, en route to a 47-6 district playoff victory at Auburn Memorial Stadium.

The Bulldogs earned their first state playoff berth in 11 years.

Landon Edwards ran for one touchdown, caught one for a TD and returned an interception for a third score for Mount Vernon (8-2).

The Lions, the North Puget Sound League Valley Division champions, finished the season 3-7.
