Auburn School District offers free summer meals program

Summer is about to begin, meaning that Auburn School District’s (ASD) Summer Food Program is about to begin too. Starting June 22, free breakfast and lunch will be served at several different locations for all children under age 18, regardless of family household income.
The ASD Summer Food Program is part of an initiative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide free and nutritious meals for students when school is out. ASD explains that “our Child Nutrition department’s mission is to support students and families by offering nutritionally sound, healthy, well-balanced meals every day.”
There are many different places where meals will be offered. While some sites only offer lunch, others offer both breakfast and lunch. Each schedule is slightly different, with the first meals offered beginning on June 22 and the last ending on Aug. 21. The schedule is subject to change.
All meals will be served and eaten at the site that they are received at. There is no paperwork, registration, or identification required to participate in the ASD Summer Food Program.

There is also an option for children to receive a box with seven days worth of breakfast and lunch meals between June 30 and July 27. If this option is chosen instead, it acts as an agreement to not visit any other ASD Summer Food Program locations for the week.

Finally, the ASD Summer Food Program will be hosting a “Back 2 School” supper event from 3:30-6 p.m. Aug. 13.
If over age 18, parents and guardians have the option to purchase a meal for $5.50 at the site.
