Auburn is join a national campaign in shaping the driving habits of youth.

Driver’s Edge, an innovative and potentially life-saving program, will visit Emerald Downs on May 15-16 to provide free training to young drivers in an effort to combat the unacceptably high number of teen-related auto collisions and driving fatalities.

Programs will be held at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day in the Emerald Downs’ parking area.

Taught by driving professionals, the program combines behind the wheel and classroom experiences designed to alter young driver attitudes and behavior. Exercises will include expert instruction on skid control, evasive lane changing, panic braking, combating unexpected situations and other drills.

To date, more than 75,000 young drivers and their parents across the United States have attended Driver’s Edge.

Every day, more than 1,200 young drivers ages 16 to 20 are injured and another 16 are killed in automobile related collisions. Car collisions are the number one killer of America’s youth.

An independent, nonprofit organization and public charity, Driver’s Edge is dedicated to saving lives behind the wheel. There is no charge for young drivers to attend Driver’s Edge, thanks to private charitable donations and the generous support of community oriented companies such as Bridgestone Americas, Inc., Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC (the presenting partner of the Driver’s Edge National Tour), Bridgestone Retail Operations, LLC and the IZOD IndyCar Series.

A total of 400 young drivers (plus their parents) will have the opportunity to attend. Spaces are available for young drivers age 21 or younger with a valid driver’s license or permit.
