AUG. 7

Setting a hoop on fire: 1:09 a.m., 1005 37th Street Southeast. Police arrested three boys and released them to their guardians for setting a nylon basketball net on fire at Gildo Rey Elementary School.

Strong arm robbery: 12:15 a.m., 4000 block of A Street Southeast. A man reported that somebody sucker punched him and stole his bicycle.

Assault: 1:30 a.m., 500 block of 21st Street Southeast. Persons unknown assaulted a male and female with a crowbar.

AUG. 6

Shoplifting: 9:10 p.m., 1702 Auburn Way N. A young man stole two Tilt alcohol beverages from the Top Foods, earning himself an arrest for shoplifting and for being in possession of a fermented beverage before he had accumulated enough years in his life to make that legal.

Lewd dude: 5:30 a.m., 4200 block of A Street Southeast. Somebody drew lewd pictures on three different vehicle windshields in grease paint. Nothing permanent, however.

AUG. 5

Firecracker kid: 5:30 p.m., 100 block of 5th Street Northeast. Police arrested a boy for possessing and lighting illegal fireworks, then released him to his mother.

Forgery: 5:37 p.m., 1500 block of Auburn Way North. Police arrested a man cashing a check with a stolen account number on it. Although the guy said he had received the check in the mail, he still couldn’t explain to the satisfaction of suspicious officers why somebody should have sent to him a check for that amount.

Bike theft: 6:34 p.m., 714 Auburn Way N. Somebody’s unlocked bike was stolen from in front of the Red Lotus Restaurant.

Plying their trade: 12:34 a.m., 2202 Auburn Way N. Two female persons trying to solicit customers were told to get out of 7-Eleven and not come back.

AUG. 4

Egg boy: 10:30 p.m., 1300 block of E Street Southeast. Police arrested a boy for malicious mischief in the third degree after a night spent egging.

Weapons offense: 4:58 p.m., 5300 block of Kersey Way Southeast. A man drove through a construction site, ignoring lane closure signs. Then the dude argued with the construction crew and flashed a firearm. Police later stopped the man and arrested him for a weapons violation.

Plant breaker: 10:38 p.m., 500 block of 21st Street Southeast. A woman told police that her adult daughter had broken several potted plants. She declined to press charges.

Explosive device: 11:58 p.m., 1100 block of 17th Street Southeast. Police arrested a man after a traffic stop for driving with a suspended license. Police took the passenger into custody after finding a home-made bong at his feet inside the vehicle. In a search of the vehicle incident to arrest, officers found a high-powered explosive device underneath the passenger seat. Both males knew about the explosive device but neither would cop to owning it.

Controlled substance: 10:33 p.m., 1700 block of I Street Northeast. Police stopped a vehicle that had been involved in an earlier felony theft after it had unsafely passed two stationary emergency vehicles with emergency lighting activated. Police arrested the driver for not having any identification and did the same for a passenger with warrants. While searching the vehicle, police discovered crack cocaine and marijuana. The arrested passenger was then charged with possessing the cocaine found beside his seat, whereupon the arrested passenger provided the driver’s true name. The driver was driving with a suspended license and had warrants.

Assault: 6:05 p.m., 31200 block of 124th Avenue Southeast. A woman reported she was in an argument with her husband, said she slapped him and he returned the compliment.

AUG. 2:

Phone threat: 10:38 a.m., 502 29th St. S.E. An unknown female called the Canterbury House nursing supervisor and left a voicemail using profane language.
