JULY 28

Aid call: (Auburn). Aid 32 responded to a report of an elderly woman who was choking. Upon arrival, Aid 32 assessed the patient’s airway and determined that a large amount of phlegm was causing respiratory distress. Aid 32 used a suction unit to remove approximately six ounces of thick phlegm. The patient reported immediate relief and was taken by ambulance to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

JULY 30

Service aid: 1:52 p.m., (Auburn). Aid 31 responded to a report of a woman with knee pain. Upon arrival, they found a woman who didn’t need emergency services, but did need help getting home as the batteries in her power scooter were kaput. The woman could not walk and was about 10 blocks from home, so Aid 31 loaded her power scooter into its car and gave her a ride home.

JULY 31

Broken water main: 8:17 a.m., (Pacific). Engine 38 responded to the intersection of 3rd Street Southeast and Butte Street to a report of a broken water main. Once there, they found the city’s water department working to repair a significant water main leak. The water department controlled the leak and repaired the main.

AUG. 1

Difficulty Breathing: 6:47 p.m., (Auburn – Lea Hill) Engine 34 responded to a report of someone having difficulty breathing. The elderly patient appeared to be breathing normally, but other signs indicated a possible early onset of congestive heart failure. An ambulance took the patient to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

AUG. 2

Helping the sheriff: (Algona) Engine 38 responded to a request to help the King County Sheriff’s Office during a possible suicide with an armed, barricaded subject. The command post was located just south of the Royal Bear Tavern on the West Valley Highway. Engine 38 and the King County Medic Supervisor stood by while the KCSO worked with the man to get him to come out without hurting himself. South King Fire and Rescue eventually relieved Engine 38 and continued the standby with KCSO.

AUG. 3

Rollover Accident: 6 p.m., (Auburn). Engine and Aid 32 responded to a reported one-car, rollover accident in the 1400 block of 17th Street Southeast. VRFA units arrived to find a small Toyota pick-up on its side in the middle of the street. Bystanders reported the vehicle had rolled three times after losing control on a turn. The driver climbed out without help and was not hurt. The scene was turned over to Auburn Police.
