The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 176 calls for service between 6 and April 12:

April 6

Leg injury: 6:17 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a residential neighborhood in Pacific where an elderly female lay injured. Firefighters found that the woman had sustained a broken leg after falling while gardening. Firefighters applied a specialized splint to her leg, and Aid 31 drove her to Auburn Regional Medical Center (ARMC).

April 7

Aid call: 12:31 p.m., (Auburn). Crews responded to a report of a 53-year-old man complaining of chest pain. King County Medics and VRFA personnel evaluated the man’s medical condition. After a thorough exam, medics determined that the pain was not heart related, and American Medical Response drove the man to ARMC for further evaluation and treatment.

CPR: (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched VRFA personnel and King County Medics to an unconscious woman who had collapsed at home and had no pulse or respirations. Firefighters and Medics started CPR, administered shocks with a defibrillator and used cardiac drug therapy to try to resuscitate her. The woman had no heart activity, so after discussions with the emergency room physician medics gave up and called the VRFA chaplain to help the family.

April 9

Assault: 8:28 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of an injured woman found a woman with a broken nose in the 900 block of M Street Southeast. The woman said that her boyfriend had punched her in the face after an argument. Firefighters treated the woman, and American Medical Response drove her in stable condition to ARMC.

April 10

Hazardous spill: 3:39 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to Peasley Canyon and West Valley Highway for an oil spill. Personnel quickly evaluated the scene and saw a vehicle in a parking area with a small oil spill from the undercarriage. Engine 38 took care of the problem, and a tow truck removed the vehicle.

April 11

Odor Investigation: 3:07 p.m.,, (Lea Hill). A local resident rang the doorbell at Station 34 and told personnel about a strange, unidentifiable stink in his garage. Firefighters responded to the address given and found a mop head in contact with a light bulb. The mop head had melted to the bulb.

April 12

Accidental Shooting: 10:36 a.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a home in Auburn where someone had accidentally shot himself in the hand. Arriving after Auburn Police secured the scene, firefighters found a man with a through-and-through gunshot wound to his hand. The man said that he had been cleaning his handgun when it accidentally discharged. Firefighters dressed the patient’s wound and American Medical Response drove him to ARMC. Police found the bullet in an adjacent wall stud.
