Light My Fire Auction returns to Auburn

The Light My Fire Auction – the Professional Union Firefighter benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – returns to Auburn at 7 p.m. March 26 at Oddfellas, 102 W. Main St.

The benefit brings in $7,000 to $12,000 each year. Firefighters from throughout the state volunteer their time for the event.

The event includes a live and silent auction, entertainment, featuring classic rock band 3rd Degree Burn, drink specials and the chance to meet firefighters featured in the 2011 Burn Foundation Firefighter Calendar, some of whom are volunteering as auctionees.

“We like to make sure everyone who comes out to support Light My Fire has a great time because they’re all so supportive of the Leukemia Society,” said Linda Kent, event organizer of the Professional Union Firefighter. “We like make sure donors get something back – other than fantastic tax deductions, time with firefighters and really cool silent auction items.”

New this year is the opportunity to win a “Desperate Housewives Party” with a group of firefighters from the 2011 Washington State Council Firefighters Burn Foundation Calendar. Other winners in the live auction gain either four hours of labor or a four-hour date from an individual firefighter. There’s also a silent auction for several prizes, including video game systems, desserts, hotel stays, rounds of golf and fire station dinners.

“This is a totally fun event – and it doesn’t peter out after the auction ends, it heats up. Firefighters really know how to liven up a party,” said Oddfellas owner Christian McLendon.

The silent auction begins when doors open, with the final table closing 15 minutes after the live auction. The live auction begins at 9 p.m.
