Oct. 4

Smoke investigation: 9:20 a.m., (Algona). Firefighters checking out a smoke problem in a single-family home concluded that the source of the smoke was a refrigerator motor on the fritz.

Oct. 5

Aid call: 7:57 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters helped a girl who had sustained a blow to the head from a soda can that a family member had tossed to her. When firefighters found the girl was stable, they left her at home with her family.

Oct. 6

Aid call: 11:38 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responding to treat someone caught by Pacific Police found a middle-aged guy suffering from bites administered by a police dog. Firefighters bandaged the man, then a private ambulance carted him off to Auburn Regional Medical Center.

Oct. 7

Car accident: 6:45 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a two-vehicle accident on A Street Southeast. One of the drivers complained of a headache, but refused further care. Auburn police drove the driver home.

Oct. 8

Aid call: 1:01 p.m., (Auburn). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to help a 37-year-old man complaining of arm numbness and chest tightness. Firefighters and King County Medic One checked him out for a potential cardiac issue, then a VRFA aid unit motored him to ARMC for further evaluation.

Oct. 9

Laundry room fire: 6:48 p.m., (Pacific). Firefighters responding to a fire in a home in the 400 block of Milwaukee Boulevard South and finding smoke billowing out the back of the home quickly attacked the fire, limiting it to the clothes dryer. Still, the home did sustain light smoke and water damage. A fire investigator determined that an improperly installed power cord to the dryer caused the fire. The Red Cross provided the residents with alternative housing.

Oct. 10

Car fire: 4:44 p.m., (Pacific). Valley Com dispatched firefighters to a vehicle fire in a trucking yard. Battalion 31 was first on scene and found a well involved passenger vehicle fire next to several parked semi-trucks. Engine 38 killed the fire, which later inspection concluded was accidental.
