South King County residents have more opportunities to dispose of their household hazardous waste at no cost, with new weekend service now available from the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program’s Wastemobile service at the Auburn SuperMall.

“We heard from visitors that they wanted the Auburn SuperMall Wastemobile to have a predictable, easy to remember schedule, so we are making the service available every weekend,” said Jay Watson, program administrator.

Beginning Feb. 4, and continuing every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the King County Wastemobile will offer residents a convenient place to safely drop off oil-based paint, propane tanks, motor oil and other hazardous household wastes.

By properly disposing of these wastes and keeping them out of the trash, sewers and storm drains, King County residents are helping safeguard the environment and reducing hazardous materials in their homes.

The Wastemobile service is located in the northwest corner of the Auburn SuperMall (next to Sports Authority), 1101 Supermall Way. This collection location began service in July 2009 on a two-weekend-per-month schedule, and is increasing to weekly service for the convenience of residents and businesses.

“Residents rely on our collection facilities in north and south Seattle, and Factoria, as well as our mobile Wastemobile service for disposing of unwanted household hazardous waste. It is safe, convenient and there is no charge because County residents are already paying for this service through their garbage and sewer utility bills.”

In addition to the weekly South King County service, the mobile Wastemobile service will continue in other locations throughout King County in the summer and fall, such as Covington, Snoqualmie and Bothell/Kenmore.

Looking for reusable household products? The Wastemobile provides free products to the public, such as oil-based paint, stain and primer, plus wood care and cleaning products. These products are subject to availability, and residents will need to sign a release form prior to receiving those materials.
