Auburn Mountainview girls basketball earns way into 3A state tourney with 59-52 win over Bonney Lake

The Auburn Mountainview girls basketball team grabbed the seventh and final seed into the Washington State 3A girls basketball championship tourney with a 59-52 win over Bonney Lake in a loser-out contest this Saturday at Auburn High School.

Junior Ida Hüners paced the Lions with a game-high 20 points.

Freshman guard Aalia Braboy had nine points with Stephanie Smolinski chipping in with eight. Angel Pele added seven points.

The Panthers were led by Rani Wiegand and Marcel Pounds who had 16 and 15 points respectively.

The game was the third time the two South Puget Sound League 3A Division rivals had met this season, with Bonney Lake winning both their previous meetings.

The Lions were forced to play for the final spot out of the West Central District III tourney after losing to Enumclaw 39-33 on Friday night.

Auburn Mountainview will kick off the tourney with a 9 a.m. game Wednesday against Meadowdale (19-5).
