Auburn Mountainview moves on two relay teams, three individuals to 3A meet | Prep boys swimming

The Auburn Mountainview boys swimming team qualified two relay teams and three individual swimmers to this weekend's Washington State 3A Boys Swimming and Diving Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

The Auburn Mountainview boys swimming team qualified two relay teams and three individual swimmers to this weekend’s Washington State 3A Boys Swimming and Diving Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

The Lions’ 200-yard freestyle relay team – with seniors Riley King and Colin Lempert and juniors Tyler Arnold and Luke Lavine – punched its ticket to state with a third-place finish at the West Central District III meet this past Saturday at the Hazen Pool in Renton. The relay team stopped the clock at 1 minute, 33.42 seconds, just shy of the school record.

Kennedy Catholic won the relay in 1:33.04.

The same foursome represents Auburn Mountainview’s 400 free relay squad at state. The relay team finished second at districts with a time of 3:26.93. Hazen won the district title in 3:25.11.

Moving on individually for the Lions is Lempert, who qualified in the 100 free with a third-place time of 50.84. He also earned a wild-card berth in the 50 free with his sixth-place, 22.99 finish.

Lavine earned a pair of individual state berths with a fifth in the 50 free in 22.76 and a fourth in the 100 free in 51.03.

King also managed a wild-card selection in the 200 free with a 1:54.68.

In the district team race, Auburn Mountainview finished sixth with 104 points. Host Hazen grabbed the district title with 233 points.

The state 3A meet begins with prelims at 6:15 p.m. Friday. The meet continues with finals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets for the meet are $9 for adults and $7 for seniors and students for one day. Two-day tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students.
